This was Barcelona's first home defeat for nearly a year and a half during the league matches.

Before the game begins Barça celebrated the National Day of Catalonia by showing a huge flag of Catalonia in the pitch, after which the choir Orfeó Català sang the Catalonia anthem Els Segadors. The match was broadcasted for the entire country and world from GOL TV
